Choosing a mobility scooter for an aging parent is about independence and safety, not specifications alone. Start with the daily routine: where will it be used, how far, and who will lift or store it?
1. Weight capacity and the rider
Match the scooter's rated capacity to the user plus any bags or oxygen units. Our U3 and R45SE cover light daily use; heavier needs call for the R98S Pro Dual.
2. Range vs. real life
Manufacturer range is measured on flat ground at moderate speed. Expect 60-70% in real neighbourhood use. Lithium packs (see our battery guide) hold charge better and weigh less.
3. Portability
If it must go in a car boot, a folding model like the X3 is far easier than a full-size unit. Check the folded dimensions, not just the weight.
4. Comfort and safety
- Adjustable tiller and seat
- Front LED lighting and rear reflectors
- Anti-tip wheels and electromagnetic brake
- Puncture-resistant tyres
5. Certification you can trust
For Europe, insist on CE marking to EN 12184 and an ISO 9001 / 13485 manufacturer. We hold 37 patents and export to 30+ countries.
